Tulip 'Don Quixote'
Tulipa hybri
'Don Quichotte'
The tulip 'Don Quixote' is a medium-sized variety featuring beautiful purple flowers. This variety has sturdy, strong stems that withstand wind well, and it blooms relatively late in the season. In terms of growth characteristics, it thrives in sunny locations and prefers well-drained soil. It grows to a height of approximately 40–50 cm. Propagation is generally done using bulbs. After harvesting, store the bulbs in a cool, dry place and replant them the following year. The cultivation method is as follows: Plant the bulbs in the autumn (usually October to November). Plant them at a depth of about 10–15 cm and space them about 10 cm apart. After planting, water thoroughly to help the roots establish properly. While no special care is required during the winter, it is important to provide consistent moisture once the sprouts emerge in the spring. In gardens, it is suitable for use as a boundary plant, flower bed, or border plant, and harmonizes well with other spring flowers. After the flowers have faded, leave the plant as is until the leaves turn yellow to allow the bulbs to absorb sufficient nutrients. Major pests and diseases include leaf blight and bulb rot; control methods include immediately removing diseased plants and using fungicides appropriately to suppress the spread of the disease. Pests include aphids and insects, which can be controlled using insecticides. To prevent pests and diseases, it is important to disinfect the soil before planting and avoid overcrowding.
