Growth Characteristics

Hydrangea fragrans melba is a deciduous shrub belonging to the Hydrangeaceae family that produces showy, conical flowers in the summer. The flowers are initially white, gradually turning into a strawberry-pink, and become a deeper shade in the autumn. It grows to a height of approximately 1.5 to 2 meters; while it prefers sunlight, it can also thrive in partial shade.

Propagation Methods
It is generally propagated by cuttings. In spring or early summer, cut new branches to a length of about 10 to 15 cm, remove the lower leaves, apply rooting hormone, and plant them in soil. Roots develop within about 2 to 3 weeks in well-drained soil.

Cultivation Methods
It prefers well-drained soil and grows well in clay or loam rich in organic matter. When planting, ensure sufficient space for good ventilation, and maintain soil moisture through mulching after planting. Water just enough to keep the soil moist, but avoid overwatering. It is beneficial to prune the branches in the spring to shape the plant.
