Cordifolium
Symphyotrichum cordifolium
Symphyotrichum cordifolium is a perennial plant primarily native to North America that thrives in forests with moderate moisture. This plant grows to a height of approximately 60–120 cm, and its leaves are heart-shaped. It blooms with purple flowers from late summer to early autumn, with yellow centers. Propagation is mainly carried out by seeds and root division. Seeds are typically sown in the spring, but it is also possible to germinate them indoors before transplanting. Root division can be performed in early spring or autumn; simply select healthy roots, divide them, and plant them. Regarding cultivation, Symphyotrichum cordifolium grows best in well-drained soil. While it thrives best in sunny locations, it can also grow in partial shade. Watering should be done periodically, but overwatering should be avoided in well-drained soil. Due to the natural beauty it offers, Symphyotrichum cordifolium is widely used in gardens for various purposes, such as mixed borders or naturalistic gardens. Since the flowering period is relatively late, it can be planted alongside other plants to add variety. Major pests include slugs and aphids, and the plant is susceptible to fungal diseases if it is excessively wet. Slugs can be removed by hand, or natural control methods include inducing natural predators or using organic insecticides. Aphids can be controlled using soapy water or natural insecticides. To prevent fungal diseases, ensure sufficient ventilation and drainage, and use fungicides if necessary.
