Pink carnation 'Raspberry Swirl'
Dianthus plumarius
'Raspberry Swirl'
Growth Characteristics: The Dianthus 'Raspberry Swirl' (Dianthus plumarius) is a perennial herbaceous plant that grows to a height of approximately 20–30 cm. The flowers feature a harmonious blend of red and white, blooming in a slender, elongated form that trails downward. Flowering typically occurs from late spring to early summer, and it is characterized by its pleasant fragrance. Propagation Methods: It is primarily propagated by seeds or root division. When propagating by seeds, sow them indoors in the spring to germinate, then gradually acclimate them to the outdoor environment before transplanting them to the garden. Root division is performed in the autumn, where healthy roots are separated and planted in the soil. Cultivation Methods: Grow in a sunny location with good drainage. Neutral to slightly alkaline soil is suitable, requiring a moderate organic matter content. Water thoroughly when the topsoil dries out, but be careful not to overwater. Fertilize appropriately in early spring and before flowering. Garden Use: It is primarily used for ornamental purposes along garden edges or in flowerbeds. Due to its beautiful colors and fragrance, it can be harmoniously arranged with bellflowers or other perennials. It can also be grown in pots on verandas or windowsills. Important Pests and Control Methods: The Dianthus 'Raspberry Swirl' is relatively resistant to pests and diseases; however, leaves may turn yellow or rot during the rainy season or when ventilation is poor. In such cases, improving drainage and ensuring good ventilation will suffice. Additionally, to prevent and treat pests, remove diseased leaves for early control and use fungicides.
