Echeveria 'Purple Pearl'
Echeveria gibbiflora
'Purple Pearl'
Echeveria 'Purple Pearl' is a succulent native to Mexico characterized by its beautiful appearance, featuring thick, smooth leaves with a purple hue. This plant grows in a rosette form and can reach a diameter of up to 30 cm. Regarding growth characteristics, it prefers sunlight but should avoid direct sunlight, and thrives in well-draining soil. While it is drought-tolerant, overwatering should be avoided during the winter, and the optimal growing temperature is 15–25°C. Propagation methods primarily include leaf cuttings and offsets. For leaf cuttings, detach a healthy leaf, place it on soil, and water sparingly until roots appear. For offset propagation, detach the small offspring growing from the mother plant and plant them independently. It can be grown in a bright indoor environment or in a partially shaded garden. Water should be given only after the soil has completely dried out, and watering should be reduced, especially during the winter. It is recommended to use well-draining potting soil specifically designed for succulents. Additionally, it is helpful to apply fertilizer specifically designed for succulents about once a month during the growing season in spring and summer. In the garden, they are used as focal points in pots or flowerbeds, and can also be utilized for landscaping purposes by arranging them alongside other succulents. Their vibrant colors particularly serve as a decorative element in the garden. Major pests include scale insects and aphids. Effective control methods include wiping them with soapy water or spraying them with diluted alcohol when they appear. Furthermore, it is important to observe the plants regularly to detect and respond to pest infestations early.
