RHS runs biodiversity-themed trails across five UK gardens, highlighting public gardens’ education role

As of September 14, 2026, a garden-management issue confirmed within the past seven days is the Royal Horticultural Society’s biodiversity-linked trail across five RHS Gardens. RHS says “The Wind in the Willows: A Garden Adventure” is being run at RHS Garden Wisley, Bridgewater, Harlow Carr, Hyde Hall and Rosemoor until the end of December 2026.

The programme is not presented only as a visitor attraction; RHS links it directly to its 2026 biodiversity theme. The society says the trail is designed to encourage curiosity about wildlife and to support learning about protecting the natural environment, wildlife and habitats.

From a public-garden management perspective, the case shows a model in which planting, circulation routes, seasonal displays and interpretation are managed together. RHS describes each garden as providing its own setting and seasonal character, using paths and garden spaces to structure the story-led trail.

The RHS notice also includes a related book listed as available from September 10, 2026. That date falls within the past seven days as of September 14, and indicates how the garden-visit experience is being extended through on-site interpretation and publishing content tied to biodiversity education.

In practical garden management, biodiversity-focused operation does not only mean creating a separate display. Existing plantings and maintenance practices involving fruit trees, fallen fruit, grassland, shrubs, water edges or shaded spaces need to be planned so that wildlife food and habitat, disease hygiene, visitor safety and interpretation work together.
