The Queen Elizabeth II Garden, created by the charity The Royal Parks, opened to the public in London’s Regent’s Park on April 27, 2026. The project converted a disused plant nursery into a new public garden covering about two acres. The Royal Parks said the space is intended both to commemorate the life of Queen Elizabeth II and to return new green space to the center of the city.

The opening has been staged in the centenary year of Queen Elizabeth II’s birth. According to a Royal Parks feature published on April 21, 2026, the garden was officially opened that day by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, and then began welcoming general visitors on April 27. With the formal opening and public launch taking place within the past week, the project has drawn attention as one of London’s most prominent new garden developments.

The design focuses on combining commemoration with horticultural character. A straight path running through the center is intended to represent Queen Elizabeth II’s “unwavering loyalty and service,” while the main southern entrance includes a pond, seating, and a pergola. Planting was arranged for year-round seasonal interest and includes lily of the valley, Narcissus ‘Diamond Jubilee,’ Tulipa ‘Royal Celebration,’ myrtle, rosemary, oak, and Maackia amurensis, all described by The Royal Parks as having personal or symbolic connections to the late Queen.

Another central element of the project is biodiversity and climate resilience. The Royal Parks says the garden was designed to expand ecological benefits through wildlife-friendly planting, more than 40 new trees, a pond, and meadow-style areas. In separate material published on April 16, 2026, the organization described the site as a fully accessible, climate-resilient public garden, and after the April 27 opening its listed hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
