On October 18, 2026, Greenhouse Grower profiled Spring Creek Growers’ Texas native plant program. The company operates about 500,000 square feet of growing space on a 60-acre property in Waller, Texas, United States.

According to the report, the program expanded from about 8–10 selections in its first year to about 50–60 selections today. Spring Creek Growers said native plants have become its second-largest crop category after annuals.

The expansion followed retail demand for Texas native plants. Greenhouse Grower reported that after Texas grocery chain H-E-B asked for a larger push into Texas natives, Spring Creek Growers developed what had been a small native crop effort into a major program.

Spring Creek Growers worked with the Native Plant Society of Texas on staff education and regional ecology knowledge. The report also noted that Texas’ many ecoregions mean a plant native to one part of the state may not be appropriate for every market the company serves.

Commercial production built on experience with crops such as Texas bluebonnet, where the team worked on germination, uniformity, and yield. The company has tested production practices, including vernalization, because established greenhouse production information is limited for some native species.

This case is not a single-cultivar launch but an expansion of commercial production for regional native plant selections. In a Texas market facing water-resource pressure and rapid development, it reflects a move to supply consumers and landscape customers with locally adapted plant material.
