The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council ran Pollinator Garden Care Day from 10:00 a.m. to noon on October 10, 2026, at Joslin Community Garden in Providence. The announced location was 40 Florence St, Providence, RI 02909.
The central task was the installation of a new pollinator plot. Organizers said the event would explain the importance of native plants that provide food and habitat for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators, while participants planted native perennials.
From a maintenance perspective, the work also included weeding, mulching, and preparing shared garden spaces for fall. This made the event not just a planting activity, but a hands-on management effort combining soil cover, weed control, and seasonal transition work in an existing community garden.
Organizers said tools, gloves, plants, and light refreshments would be provided. Participants were asked to wear comfortable clothes that could get dirty and to bring a refillable water bottle.
The event was announced as accessible to both English and Spanish speakers. It shows how urban green-space management, when paired with local participation, can advance pollinator habitat creation and routine garden maintenance at the same time.
