Cardiandra ‘Autumn Bouquet’ named Best New Variety at GrootGroenPlus 2026
KVBC announced the results of its novelty assessment on September 30, 2026, during the first day of GrootGroenPlus 2026 in Zundert, the Netherlands. Of 10 submitted plants, seven were ultimately assessed, and Cardiandra ‘Suapc 1707’ (Autumn Bouquet) received a gold medal and the title ‘Best New Variety GrootGroenPlus 2026.’
The winning entry was submitted by Jens Meyer Jungpflanzen of Apen, Germany, and Diderk Heinje Baumschul-Pflanzen-Handel GmbH & Co. KG of Edewecht, Germany. KVBC also noted that the entry came from the relatively lesser-known Cardiandra group.
The jury described Autumn Bouquet as compact, densely branched and very floriferous. It also cited the plant’s striking colour combination and strong presentation as reasons for the award.
In the same KVBC novelty assessment, Picea glauca ‘Klavercon’ (Little Nordic) received the silver medal. Leucothoe ‘Opstal12’ (Sparkling Gold) and Phillyrea angustifolia ‘HUGP16’ (Grand Prix) each received bronze medals.
GrootGroenPlus also reported the novelty assessment results in an English-language announcement, stating that Cardiandra ‘Suapc 1707’ (Autumn Bouquet) received the highest rating and a gold award. The announcement highlighted the variety’s late flowering and lilac-pink flowers.
